What Is A Transponder Key?

Transponder keys (also known as chip keys) are standard mechanical keys, often types that have been used for many years on vehicles that have a silicon chip inside the plastic head of the key.  It is a built in immobilizer system that renders your vehicle inaccessible to anyone without a genuine key, even if they manage to turn the ignition lock they will still be unable to start the vehicle. 

No one will be able to hotwire or bypass a chipped key system as the vehicle is run with an ECU (Engine Control Unit) nor can you bypass the system by cutting wires.
